The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) recently approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Poland.

The sale includes AGM-158B-2 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM-ER) with Extended Range All-Up-Rounds and related logistics and program support elements, estimated for $1.77 billion.

This sale aims to enhance Poland’s capability to address current and future threats by providing advanced, long-range strike systems that can be deployed from Polish Air Force platforms.

Additionally, it is expected to improve the interoperability between the Polish Air Force and U.S. joint forces, as well as other regional and NATO forces.

The AGM-158B-2 JASSM-ER is a 2,000-pound (907-kilogram) warhead and a range of 1,200 miles (1,931 kilometers), providing Poland with a significant offensive capability.

In addition to the JASSM-ER sale, the DSCA also approved the potential sale of 745 AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles to Poland for approximately $1.69 billion. These missiles are designed to enhance Poland’s air defense capabilities.

Both proposed sales will undergo review by the U.S. Congress, where the quantities and prices may be subject to change. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented on the situation, stating that while Poland is not currently facing direct and immediate danger from Russia, the country remains vigilant.

He emphasized that Russia’s attitude towards the West, NATO, and Poland is not peaceful. Tusk noted that while an open conflict with Russia seems unlikely, the risk of conflict would increase significantly if NATO were to become dysfunctional.
