Argentinian singer Fede Dorcaz has died at the age of 29. “The HOY family mourns the sensitive passing of our friend and colleague, Fede Dorcaz.

We join the pain that bears his entire family, his parents and his girlfriend, Mariana Ávila,” read a statement shared by Mexican broadcaster Hoy on Instagram on Friday, October 10. “Mariana and Fede were one of our predicted couples for the new season of Las Estrellas Bailan Hoy.”

The message concluded, “Fede leaves a big void in our team. His memory and passion will continue to inspire us forever. Rest in Peace Fede Dorcaz.”

Dorcaz was set to appear on Las Estrellas Bailan Hoy, Mexico’s version of Dancing With the Stars, when it premiered later this month, with Ávila as his dance partner.

According to multiple local reports, Dorcaz was fatally shot on Thursday, October 9, while driving in Mexico City after leaving dance rehearsals. Authorities believe the singer was the victim of an attempted robbery. The investigation remains ongoing.

“Video surveillance cameras in the area are being analyzed to identify the likely perpetrators who, according to initial reports, were traveling on two motorcycles,” a spokesperson for the Mexico City Secretariat of Public Safety told The Independent in a statement.

Hours later, Ávila shared a heartbreaking tribute to her late boyfriend.

“I love you with all my heart, like I tell you every day,” Ávila wrote on Friday in the comments section of Dorcaz’s final Instagram post. “Baby boy, come back please I don’t want to spend another day without you.”

Dorcaz had been rapidly rising in the Latin pop music scene, performing 10 sold-out shows across Mexico last year and releasing hits including “No Eres Tú” and “Cara Bonita.” His debut album, Instinto, dropped earlier this year to strong acclaim.

“This album is my soul. Every lyric, every note, is a reflection of who I am and where I come from,” Dorcaz told Rolling Stone in May. He also expressed his deep passion for performing live: “It’s not just about performing. It’s about creating a moment people will carry with them forever.”

He continued, “I want to be more than just a musician. I want to show people that you can build something amazing from nothing and inspire others to chase their dreams.”

The singer often celebrated his achievements with fans on Instagram.

“Probably one of the most beautiful moments of my life and career, everything I ever dreamed of is happening, and we just sang in the Arena Monterrey,” Dorcaz wrote in December 2024, reflecting on his performance in Mexico.

“Thank you for all the love and affection you gave me. I will never forget and hopefully the beginning of many more. Thank you for inviting me to sing @_digital_mx .”

His last Instagram post, shared on October 2, featured photos from Michael Kors’ New York Fashion Week presentation. Following news of his death, fans flooded the comments section with messages of love and grief.

“I love you friend, rest in peace you have been a joy and example of whoever follows it,” one follower wrote, while another added, “So full of life, so full of goals, and his life taken by the insecurity of a country he loved like his own.”
