Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are setting off fireworks of their own. In photos obtained on Saturday, October 11, Perry, 40, was seen kissing and cuddling Trudeau, 53, aboard her Caravelle yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara, California.
Perry, who ended her six-year engagement to Orlando Bloom in June, wore a black one-piece swimsuit while sharing affectionate moments with a shirtless Trudeau, who kept things casual in jeans and sunglasses. In one picture, he wrapped his arms around the pop star as she nuzzled against his neck.
Romance rumors between the pair first began over the summer when they were spotted together in Montreal. On July 28, the two were seen walking Perry’s dog, Nugget, through Mount Royal Park before dining together at Le Violon. Two days later, Trudeau was seen nearly front row at Perry’s Lifetimes Tour concert in Montreal, smiling and nodding along as she performed.
By September, sources said that Perry and Trudeau were quietly seeing each other. “They’ve decided to be much more private about it,” one insider said. “They are still speaking and are very interested in each other.”
A second source added that their relationship “isn’t serious” since Perry is “extremely busy right now” with her world tour, which is currently in England and set to wrap up on December 7 at Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Park.
“Katy is taking it day by day but is very open to dating,” the source shared.
The “Teenage Dream” singer’s rumored romance with Trudeau comes just months after her split from Bloom, 48, with whom she shares 5-year-old daughter Daisy. It was reported on June 25 that the couple amicably ended their engagement after nearly a decade of an on-and-off relationship.
“Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting,” their reps said in a joint statement. “They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is, and always will be, raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.”
Bloom later addressed the breakup during a September appearance on Today, saying, “I’m great, man. I’m so grateful. We have the most beautiful daughter. We’re great. We’re going to be great. It’s nothing but love.”
Before her engagement to Bloom, Perry was married to comedian Russell Brand until 2012. Bloom was previously married to model Miranda Kerr from 2010 to 2013, and they share a 14-year-old son, Flynn.
Trudeau, for his part, announced his separation from Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage. The former couple share three children: 17-year-old Xavier, 16-year-old Ella-Grace, and 11-year-old Hadrien.
