Cardi B Opens Up About Heartbreak With Offset and Finding Love Again With Stefon Diggs

Cardi B is opening up about the deep emotional struggle she experienced before her split from Offset. “I also felt like my marriage, I felt the love dying from my end, from my end, from his end,” Cardi, 32, shared on the Monday, October 6, episode of the “On Purpose” podcast. “I was very lonely because I chose to be lonely.”

In July 2024, Cardi filed for divorce from Offset, 33. Just two months later, she welcomed the couple’s daughter, Blossom.

“While it was dying, I had a human growing in me, and I just kept thinking, ‘What’s life going to be without this person? What’s life going to be without raising my last child without this person? What’s life going to be with that person not being my friend anymore?’” Cardi recalled to host Jay Shetty.

“When you have those types of thoughts, it will make you sad. It will get you depressed. It will have you lost. But I overcame that.”

Now, the Grammy winner is pregnant and expecting her first child with boyfriend and NFL star Stefon Diggs. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper revealed it took time to fully heal before she was ready to embrace love again with another partner.

“It took months for the heart to say, ‘You’re done,’ instead of my mouth and my brain,” she explained. “You can say it and you can take actions, but even if you take actions, if you’re not done, you’re not done.”

One friend who offered support and light during Cardi’s difficult period was fellow recording artist Shakira. While collaborating on the hit song “Puntería,” the pair bonded over heartbreak and public breakups.

“Around that time I was working with Shakira and I was like, ‘How the f*** did you overcome this? Like, how did you overcome this?’ And she’s like, ‘It’s going to happen,’” Cardi recalled.

“And [I’m like], it will never happen. And it happened. It took some crying, it took some thoughts, scary thoughts. But I’m here honey. I’m here, and I’m the strongest I’ve been. But it was hard.”

In June 2022, Shakira and her longtime partner Gerard Piqué announced their split after 12 years together. The couple welcomed sons Milan, 12, and Sasha, 10, during their relationship.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the pair wrote in a joint statement to Reuters at the time. “For the wellbeing of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy.”

Shakira later revealed that fellow singer Chris Martin was one of the people who supported her through the difficult time.

“He was there for me when I got separated and was heartbroken,” Shakira shared in June 2022. “He was checking in every day to see how I was doing, sending me words of support and strength and wisdom.”

While Shakira was last linked to Emily in Paris actor Lucien Laviscount, Cardi is currently enjoying her relationship with Diggs, 31. She credits the NFL player for being “respectful” of her past relationships and for always staying in touch.

“Sometimes we would talk and then sometimes we’d go, like, weeks or a month without talking,” Cardi recalled on the September 24 episode of Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy” podcast.

“For some reason, it’s almost, like, he always hit me up at the right time. He always hit me up when I felt uneasy … and then we had really good conversations. It got to the point that it was, like, ‘Damn, we talked for six and seven hours.’”
