Patrick Suzuki and Kacie McIntosh’s whirlwind romance on Love Is Blind season 9 captured viewers’ attention, and their breakup left fans even more shocked.
Now that their split has aired, Patrick, 31, and Kacie, 34, offer differing accounts of why they didn’t reconnect after the show, each telling Nick Viall on the Tuesday, October 7, episode of The Viall Files podcast that the other was at fault.
Patrick claimed that once they returned to Denver, after Kacie accepted his proposal but then called off their sight-unseen engagement shortly after meeting in person on the show, she refused to take his calls or meet up one-on-one.
“I saw her right when I got back. Not in person. Not one-on-one,” Patrick alleged. “I asked for a conversation. I asked for a one-on-one thing.”
He added that when they got back from the pods, he reached out to Kacie saying, “‘Hey, let’s have a conversation before we see everyone.’ She was like, ‘I need time. I need time.’”
When Viall, 45, asked if they ever had a one-on-one meeting, Patrick said no, claiming she never gave him “even a phone call.”
Kacie, however, gave a very different account. During her own interview with Viall that aired on the same podcast episode, she explained that she had “intentions” of dating Patrick back in Colorado, she just didn’t want to be engaged because she wasn’t sure she could overcome her lack of physical attraction.
Regarding who made the first move, Kacie claimed Patrick did not initiate contact. “That’s not how it went down. He did not reach out to me. I reached out to him,” she told Viall.
“We got back on, like, a Friday. He wanted to have a phone call or meet up immediately. I was like, ‘Listen, I’m so emotional right now, I just got home, it’s not going to be the outcome you want.’”

Kacie said she asked Patrick to wait until Monday or Tuesday, explaining, “I want to talk to you. I’m so glad I had this experience with you.” She added, “Him claiming he reached out, that’s just not true.”
Kacie also alleged that she learned Patrick, during a group event, told the cast “it would’ve been Anna” that he picked if she had stayed. “Then I was like, ‘This is not my love story,’” Kacie admitted.
The pair became engaged on season 9 of the Netflix series sight unseen, but once they met in person, Kacie called off the engagement. She later explained on the show that she didn’t see a future with Patrick because she wasn’t physically attracted to him.
“He deserves somebody better than me. He’s not a bad-looking guy in any sense, but he deserves somebody that is so obsessed with him,” Kacie said. “I just, unfortunately, don’t think my attraction to him is gonna grow that much, and it sucks.”
Following the breakup, Kacie received significant backlash online from fans criticizing how she ended things with Patrick. He, however, appeared to defend her via his Instagram Stories on October 4.
“Hey everyone, I’ve been reading the comments and DMs,” he wrote. “I’m blown away by all the love and support, thank you. I’ll do my best to get back to everyone. Please remember we’re all human.”
