Demi Lovato’s ex-fiancé Max Ehrich has been arrested on domestic violence charges. Ehrich, 34, was taken into custody on Tuesday, October 7, facing one count of battery on a person 65 years of age or older, according to court records.
The Young and the Restless actor posted $1,000 bond and was released from jail on Wednesday, October 8.
Us Weekly first confirmed in March 2020 that Ehrich and Lovato, 33, were dating shortly after they sparked romance rumors with flirty exchanges on social media. A source told Us at the time that the pair had met “a few weeks ago” and that their relationship was off to a strong start.
Their romance escalated quickly, with Ehrich and Lovato quarantining together at the Camp Rock star’s California home during the coronavirus pandemic. An insider described the couple as “getting really serious.”
“The quarantine has been really great for Demi and [she] and Max have gotten so close,” the source said. “[She’s] doing a great job at staying sober, healthy and taking care of [herself].”
Ehrich and Lovato became engaged in July 2020 after only four months of dating.

“@maxehrich – I knew I loved you the moment I met you,” Lovato wrote on Instagram at the time. “It was something I can’t describe to anyone who hasn’t experienced it firsthand but luckily you did too.. I’ve never felt so unconditionally loved by someone in my life (other than my parents) flaws and all.
You never pressure me to be anything other than myself. And you make me want to be the best version of myself. I’m honored to accept your hand in marriage. I love you more than a caption could express but I’m ecstatic to start a family and life with you. I love you forever my baby. My partner. Here’s to our future!!!!”
Lovato, who married Jordan “Jutes” Lutes in May, reflected on her split from Ehrich in her 2021 YouTube documentary, Dancing With the Devil.
“What happened? I think I rushed into something that I thought was what I was supposed to do. I realized as time went on that I didn’t actually know the person that I was engaged to,” she said.
Lovato added that quarantining together “accelerated [the relationship].” “I didn’t even have my best friends to hang out with in quarantine,” she explained.
Reflecting on the breakup, Lovato said, “The hardest part of the breakup was mourning the person that I thought he was … but I’m not the only one who felt fooled. I was just as shocked as the rest of the world at some of the things that were said and done.”
