Alec Baldwin has broken his silence after being involved in a car accident in East Hampton, New York. “I was in a car accident this morning. I’m fine. My brother Stephen was visiting me on Long Island, and we spent the weekend out there for the Buffalo Film Festival,” Baldwin, 67, shared via Instagram on Monday. “A guy cut me off, a big garbage truck, a garbage truck the size of a whale.
I’ve never seen a garbage truck that big. It must have been for something commercial, like construction. Anyway, to avoid hitting him, I hit a tree. I hit a big fat tree. I crushed my car. My wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car. I feel bad about that. But it’s all fine, I’m fine, my brother’s fine, and boppity bop.”
Baldwin went on to thank the East Hampton Police Department, describing the officers as “nice as can be.” He gave a special shout-out to Officer Gerken, who “came to his aid” and helped him file a report following the crash.
“My wife’s car is pretty smashed up. Big fat tree,” Baldwin continued before sharing his upcoming travel plans. “And I’m going to L.A. to see my family. Can’t wait. I’m going out to California to see my family, spend a few days out there, gather my family, and then come home.”
A rep for Stephen Baldwin, 59, said that he is “doing fine and is grateful no one was injured. He appreciates the concern and can confirm that he and Alec are both safe and well.”
Baldwin concluded his video by praising his wife, Dancing With the Stars contestant Hilaria Baldwin. “I love you more than anything and I’m very proud of you,” he said, assuring followers once again, “I’m fine!”
Earlier reports revealed that Alec and Stephen were involved in the accident on Monday, October 13. Their Range Rover crashed headfirst into a tree in East Hampton. It remains unclear who was driving at the time or if another vehicle was involved.
Photos show Alec walking nearby and talking on the phone as the front of the SUV is visibly smashed. Another image from Page Six captures Stephen in rain boots standing beside his brother as they waited for help.
Alec and Stephen are two of six Baldwin siblings, which include brothers Daniel and William “Billy” Baldwin and sisters Elizabeth Keuchler and Jane Sasso. Alec, the most prominent of the Baldwin brothers, has won multiple Emmys and Golden Globes and earned an Oscar nomination throughout his decades-long career.
Beyond his acting achievements, Alec is a devoted family man, sharing seven children with his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and his eldest daughter, Ireland Baldwin, with ex-wife Kim Basinger. Stephen, meanwhile, shares two daughters, Alaia and Hailey Bieber, with wife Kennya Baldwin. Hailey and husband Justin Bieber welcomed their first child, son Jack, in 2024.
Earlier this year, Stephen made headlines with his brief stint on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test season 3, where he was the first to be eliminated after sustaining an injury and clashing with a medic.
Alec has also remained in the spotlight as he continues to rebuild his life following the Rust tragedy. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot in 2021 when a prop gun discharged on set. Baldwin denied pulling the trigger and was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in 2023.
Since then, Baldwin has focused on family life, much of which is documented on his TLC reality series The Baldwins. When Hilaria competed on Dancing With the Stars season 34, before her elimination during Disney Night, Alec was there in the ballroom, cheering her on as her biggest supporter.
