Paris Hilton is opening up about all the special details surrounding her engagement to Carter Reum. In a sneak peek from the premiere episode of her iHeartRadio podcast This Is Paris, the entrepreneur and DJ, 40, admits that while she was “hoping” Reum would pop the question, she was still “very surprised” when he finally did.
Although Reum, also 40, proposed during a trip to a private island to celebrate their February birthdays, Hilton reveals she initially thought the proposal would happen earlier, during their one-year anniversary trip in December.
“When it didn’t happen, I didn’t say anything but I was a little bummed,” she recalls. After she dropped a few hints, Hilton remembers Reum telling her, “When I do ask you, it’s going to be something even more amazing than this, so you’ll see soon.”
Before the big moment, Reum told Hilton to dress up so they could take photos together. Once they arrived at the beach, he surprised her by getting down on one knee.
“I just started shaking and crying because I was so excited, so happy,” Hilton shares, adding that Reum made the moment even more meaningful by inviting their family members to join the celebration.
“It was so nice that he thought to have our families there to celebrate the moment,” she says. As she looks ahead to the future, Hilton says she plans to take Reum’s last name after the wedding.
“I’m going to take it, but I feel like a hyphenated thing like Paris Hilton-Reum, because my name is just my name. I like it,” she explains, adding that she “can’t wait” to start a family together.
“It’s something we’ve talked about a lot ever since we’ve been together,” says the “Stars Are Blind” singer, who recently revealed that the couple began in vitro fertilization. “First the wedding, then the babies.”
Sharing a lighthearted moment on her show, Reum revealed if he had any pet peeves about his fiancée.
“The good and the bad of a creative mind like Paris’, her creativity flows out in music, and art, and all these things. When it comes to keeping the house clean, her creativity also comes out,” he joked. “Every day is like a treasure hunt.”
Agreeing with him, Hilton admits, “I’m not the most organized person in the world.”
“Yeah, I don’t think we’re going to change that,” Reum responds with a laugh. “If that’s the only reason why you’re not perfect, it could be way worse.” This Is Paris debuts on Monday.
