Liev Schreiber has been hospitalized in New York City. On Sunday, Nov. 16, the Ray Donovan star experienced a severe headache and immediately notified his doctor, who instructed him to go to the hospital.
Schreiber was kept overnight for observation and underwent multiple tests, though the exact cause of the issue has not yet been determined.
“Out of an abundance of caution, Liev went into the hospital for testing and as of this afternoon, he has been cleared to return to work,” his representative said in a statement.
In April 2024, the actor revealed that he once experienced temporary amnesia due to a migraine while performing in a Broadway production of Doubt: A Parable.

“I was in my dressing room and I had a terrible headache,” he recalled during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “I thought it was maybe a fast food headache, but it felt a little stronger than that. I’m walking down the stairs and I’m thinking, ‘This is not normal. I don’t feel okay.’”
He realized “something was really wrong” when he passed his costar Amy Ryan backstage and couldn’t remember her name. Although he tried to push through, things escalated onstage when he suddenly forgot his lines.
“I think, ‘Okay, I’ve had a stroke. This is it,’” he said. However, an MRI revealed no signs of a brain bleed and showed that his brain looked “perfectly fine.” A neurologist later diagnosed him with transient global amnesia.
Transient global amnesia (TGA), according to the Cleveland Clinic, is a rare condition in which a person experiences sudden memory loss and confusion. Triggers may include migraines, physical exertion, sexual intercourse, emotional stress, or sudden exposure to hot or cold water.
It is most common in middle-aged or older adults, and although frightening, it carries no long-term effects and typically resolves within 24 hours.
