We’ve now gained insight into the financial details behind Amazon MGM Studios’ blockbuster move to assume creative control of the James Bond franchise.

EON Productions, the company overseen by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, has submitted an earnings report in the UK revealing that Amazon MGM Studios paid $20 million for its stake in 007.

According to the filing, “On 20 February 2025, the company entered into an agreement for the sale of its interest in the Bond franchise, all associated assets as well as its subsidiary companies, B24 Limited and B25 Limited. The total consideration for the sale amounted to $20 million (USD).”

This figure falls significantly short of the widely reported $1 billion valuation when the Bond deal was first announced. However, as noted at the time, the structure of the joint venture was not disclosed and may have included stock options with Amazon.

Amazon reportedly holds the majority stake, with the $20 million serving as an initial payment rather than the full value of the deal. EON is expected to receive additional compensation through various means as the partnership develops.

EON’s subsidiaries, B24 Limited and B25 Limited, were the special-purpose vehicles used to produce Spectre and No Time to Die.

Another notable detail in the earnings report is that the transaction officially closed on February 20, meaning Amazon MGM Studios’ acquisition of the Bond franchise remained undisclosed for over a month before being made public.

EON Productions reported £12.1 million ($16.3 million) in revenue last year, a drop of £10 million compared to 2023.

This marks a sharp contrast to the £235 million generated in 2021, the year No Time to Die was released, concluding Daniel Craig’s tenure as the iconic British spy. Despite the decline, EON recorded a £1.5 million pre-tax profit in 2024, a notable rebound from a £1.2 million loss the previous year.

Beyond Bond, EON is developing several other projects, including a reimagining of the Dick Van Dyke family classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios.

As of last December, Matthew Warchus (Matilda: The Musical) was attached to direct, with Enda Walsh (Small Things Like These) writing the script.

Meanwhile, Amazon MGM Studios is forging ahead with plans for a new era of Bond. Dune director Denis Villeneuve is set to helm the project, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman onboard as producers.

As Deadline revealed last month, Villeneuve will begin his search for the next James Bond next year, with sources indicating he’s looking for a fresh, British talent to embody the legendary secret agent.
