Meghan Markle appears to be making her return to acting, but this time, it’s not through a royal documentary or a lifestyle series. The Duchess of Sussex has joined the cast of the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Close Personal Friends, marking her first acting role since leaving Suits in 2017.
While the studio has yet to confirm the news and Amazon declined to comment, several U.S. outlets have reported that Markle has already been spotted on set in Pasadena.
Details surrounding her role remain confidential, but some reports suggest she could be portraying a version of herself. The movie boasts a high-profile cast, including Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding.
Markle departed from Suits after seven successful seasons, announcing her exit in November 2017. Just a few months later, she married Britain’s Prince Harry in 2018 and transitioned into royal life before stepping back from official duties in 2020.

Since then, her career focus has centered on media and philanthropic ventures through Archewell, the production company she co-founded with her husband.
Her most recent on-screen project was With Love, Meghan, a Netflix cooking and lifestyle series. Although the show initially attracted attention, its second season struggled to sustain viewership.
Rumors of Markle returning to acting have circulated before. In a 2019 interview, Suits creator Aaron Korsh shared that he briefly considered bringing her back for the show’s final season.
“I thought about asking, and I thought about even using audio footage that we have to come up with something,” he told. “In the end I didn’t ask…I’m going to respect her new life and not put her in the position of having to ask.”
Korsh also noted that the upcoming Suits: LA spinoff wouldn’t have been a natural fit for her character, even if discussions had taken place.
